Geologic Formations are important to the identification of fossils. However, it can be very difficult!

Most road cuts you visit in your hunt for fossils will be in one of these formations.

A note of interest, you will practically never find a trilobite in the Stewartville Member of the Galena Formation, but you will

find numerous Maclurites!
