Bluff Country Fossils
Fossil Hunting in Southeast Minnesota

This Gallery is comprised of fairly common fossils, or things you may think are fossils, you will find in Southeastern Minnesota.

The southeastern corner of Minnesota is noted for its

fabulous fossil hunting!

Most of the area is in the Galena Formation and of the Ordovician Period. The Ordovician Period is older than the dinosaurs! Approximately 505 to 444 million years ago (latest time revision 483-443)! At that time, Minnesota was on the equator under a shallow ocean!
